During your matter · 3 min read
Keep the work easy to follow.
Simple habits for keeping messages, document versions, appointments and next actions organized in one matter.
General information, not legal advice. Reading this page does not create a lawyer-client relationship. For advice about your circumstances, talk with a lawyer.
Start with the next action
Open the relevant request or matter and check its current status before starting another request. Your workspace separates actions for you from work that is waiting on someone else.
A dashboard summary is a guide to the record. Open the record to review its current details and available actions.
Give each message enough context
Use the conversation attached to the relevant matter. Describe what changed, refer to the document or appointment involved, and state the question you need answered.
Do not paste passwords, account recovery codes or unnecessary identity details into a message. Follow the professional's instructions for any sensitive document.
Make document versions distinguishable
Use filenames that identify the document and its date or version. Explain what changed when sharing a replacement so that everyone can refer to the same copy.
- Keep the original document.
- Use a clear filename, such as Draft-agreement-2026-09-21.
- Check that every page is readable before uploading.
- Confirm which version the professional is reviewing.
Check the handover at completion
Review the outcome and any deliverables recorded in the matter. Ask about anything you do not understand, including whether any further work needs a separate engagement.
Keep the final documents and agreed next steps accessible. A completed task or closed matter does not by itself answer every future question about the underlying issue.
What you can do next
A lawyer can talk with you about your own circumstances. A notary public can witness a document in person.
